The Sun is Up...

We have a strict rule at our house. Ty has to wait until the sun comes up before he can get out of bed. We tried a clock in his room- but that didn't work- he just ignored it. So- we went with the sunrise thing. However- this morning- Ty showed up next to our bed at six and asked me what kind of dinosaur I was going to be this morning.

Huh?

I should back the boat up for a minute... The last couple of days Ty has been a little bit obsessed with dinosaurs- and he constantly wants to play like we are dinosaurs doing different things. Originally- I went with the more traditional dinosaurs- stegasaurous, triceratops, brontosauraus- but that got boring because I can only name like four different types of dinosaurs and Ty always wants to be the T-Rex. So I started making up dinosaurs. Yesterday I was a Tickle-asaurus and the day before that I was a Kiss-asaurus. So- this morning at six- Ty wants to know what kind of dinosaur I am going to be today. Still though- it's a little early to put together a clever name of a made up dinosaur that I have to play for the rest of the day.

So I told Ty (after looking at the clock) that he needed to go back to bed for a little bit and wait for the sun to come up. He looked at me very seriously and said, "The sun is up Mama." I told him that I can see out my window that it was still dark outside. "Well... the sun is up somewhere Mama." How do you argue with that? Somewhere the sun was up and so that gave Ty all the justification that he needed to be out of bed and playing dinosaurs.

Oh man, early riser, that sucks. Cute idea with the dinos! I saw somewhere, I think online, or maybe a parents mag, a nightlight or clock that you set to sun or moon to help kids know when its time to get up or still be sleeping, that might help. Oh of course you can comment and check us out, I"ll be doing the same!

Oh Jess I just love your children. Reading your blog is seriously the highlight of my days. I just want you to know that when we read Tyler's comment..."that's what Tyler's do best" I seriously started crying i was laughing so hard! I haven't seen Dave laugh that hard in a while either. Thanks for the entertainment. Tell your family hi for us. See you in 6 weeks!

How funny. :o) Porter does the same thing. We call him our little rooster. He likes to let everyone know when he's up, and its usually around 6:30 am!

It must be a boy thing too! Sayger is always up at the crack of dawn. However, he will snuggle for awhile as the sun comes up. You should have been the sleppi-osaurus until the sun came up.

Ha ha ha ha. So cute! He sounds like such a fun little boy!

I want the rule that I can't get up unless the sun is up. Does that mean if it's cloudy and I can't see that the sun is up I can stay in bed. I'm voting yes.
